Lab puppy dies after run-in with cougar | Pets

A 6-month-old lab puppy died from injuries sustained when it took off and chased a cougar Monday on national forest land near Oakridge, the dog owner reported to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

By the time the owner found the dog, it was badly injured and died before he could get it back to his car.

Brian Wolfer with ODFW said dogs may chase cougars, deer, elk and other wildlife. He recommended keeping pets on leash.

He said another dog owner reported a cougar encounter in the Dexter area a few weeks ag. That dog survived.
